Wires Down on Wickford last week

There were some concerns about the response of the firemen after a tree fell on Wickford. Here is the info that I rec'd from the Asst. Chief.  Hope this helps alleviate some concerns folks had.

 

I have researched the 911 call and have the following information that has been recorded in the CAD system.

7:42 was the time from the 911 call placed to the time E18 was on scene.

5:35 was the time from verbal dispatch of fire unit until it went on scene.

Fire Rescue Units were on scene for 196 minutes and 2 seconds.

Car theft Mt Vernon Way

I just wanted to pass on the news that we had a car stolen from our driveway Thursday night.  It was our son's car, an old Honda Accord.  He can't remember if he had it locked.  There was no sign of forced entry.  It stinks!

DPD Update: Teen Driving Program and more

Ladies and Gentlemen,

 

I hope everyone is doing well.  We are beginning to wrap up our first Citizen’s Police Academy with two more classes to go.  I have received some positive feedback, so I hope that is has been very informative.  I still have several applications on my desk, so when I figure out the next set of dates, I will begin calling the applicants back. 

 

I have attached some information for parents with young teens.  Lt. Hegwood is starting a Collision Avoidance Class for beginning drivers.  If you are interested, please contact him about the class.

 

Here is a list of entering autos throughout the city:  4701 Ashford Dunwoody Road(Laptop), Briarleigh Close(unlocked vehicle), Briarleigh Way(unlocked vehicle) and Chateau Drive(unlocked vehicle).  Most of these occurred during nighttime hours.

 

We had a purse snatching at the Perimeter Mall Parking Deck.  Suspect is a B/M with a multi-colored jacket and blue jean shorts.  He was seen running towards MARTA.  Detectives are working on the case.  Remember to keep an eye on your surroundings at all times. 

 

Our night shift caught two suspects entering autos at the Chateau of Dunwoody Townhomes.  The suspects broke into five cars before they were caught.

 

A burglary occurred on Ledgewood Drive the other day.  A back window was broken out with a baseball bat.  A T.V. and misc. jewelry were taken.

 

An attempted burglary occurred on Kingsland Court.  A neighbor watched two suspects trying to kick in the back door of the house.  The neighbor yelled at the suspects and they fled.  I would like to suggest that you call 911 and just keep an eye on them.  You can update the 911 center as we are enroute.  The suspects were H/M, 20-26 YOA, 5’7”-5’9” and between 155-170 LBS.  They fled in a VW Jetta with their tag covered(not sure of the color).

Screens slashed in Zone 7

FYI.  

 

Morris Vaughn in Area 7 reported that they today found their basement window screens and porch screens slashed.  It may have occurred last Th. or Fri., when they heard a noise out back and turned on lights, possibly scaring off someone.  There was no entry or anything taken.  They did report it to the police.  There apparently have also been a couple of other break-ins or attempts in and around Area 7, with cash being taken.  The police have been alerted by those homeowners.  Remember to keep windows and doors locked, and turn on any alarm system, as a deterrent ...  and keep a look out for suspicious activity.

I wanted to share some suspicious activity last night with you.

 

At 10:45 last night the doorbell rang.  Went to the door and it was a black woman around 5'6" and around 45 years old asking to speak to my girlfriend [name removed] who lives with me.  I questioned the lady about who she was and she said she grew up with [name removed].  My girlfriend is 28 so that meant this was a scam of some sort so I kept questioning the lady to get info.

 

She said her name was Alberta Jackson.  I told her no such person lived here and she asked me how long I'd been in the house.  I asked her who she got the information/address from and she said from her father.  I asked what his name was, she said Benjamin (his name is [not Benjamin]).  This meant she must have gone into the mailbox one day and picked out Stephanie's name earlier (as no mail in the box last night had her name on it).

 

I'm 6'5" 240 so I opened the door pretty aggressively and told the lady she needed to leave (or words to that affect).  Then I realized she was in a black SUV in the driveway (Toyota Forerunner I think) and there was another blue 4 door SUV/truck (Chevrolet/GMC) in the street.

 

She went to her SUV and pulled beside the other SUV and I heard a man talking to her (Something like "Let's go").  I stepped out on my porch, called 911, and made sure to be loud enough so they could here.  They left in the direction of Forest Springs and then towards Mt. Vernon.

 

Spoke to an officer last night who took down the statement and descriptions but wanted to share with you to be on the lookout.  I know it's been said before but call 911 first, I should have.

Broadstone Apartments 0610 this morning (2/24): from the DPD

A lady was getting into  her blue 2007 Honda Accord 4 door, Ga. tag AVI 9186 when a B/M approached her stuck something in her back, demanded the keys and stole the keys. Suspect described as 6'00", 200 lbs. Wearing a dark colored hoodie, no further info. The car was taken.

Pick Pocket (from the DPD)

We have recently taken two separate reports of a pick-pocket that is in the area.  We do not have a suspect description, but please keep an eye on all of your valuables while in the store.  One occurred at the Wal-Mart, 4725 Ashford Road, and the other occurred at 134 Perimeter Center North. 

 

We also had an entering auto at the mall yesterday around 1415 hours.  The suspect made entry by a partially opened window.  A CD player was taken out of the trunk.

Attempted Break-In: from the DPD

This afternoon we had an attempted break-in on Kings Down Circle in North Springs.  Our detectives are working on this case right now.  As you can see below, we have a tag and a vehicle description.  I will let you know if we get any further information.  If you see this vehicle, call 911 immediately!  It should be occupied by two black males.  If someone is knocking on your door, let them know you are home.  You do not need to open the door.  If it is suspicious in any way, call 911!!

ATTEMPTED HOME BREAK-IN!!!! KINGS DOWN CIRCLE (from a neighboring Watch Captain)

TWO AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN JUST TRIED TO BREAK IN MY HOUSE!!!

 

They tried to come in thru the back door. They were in a Silver Mitsu Eclispe GA Tag BWG 9095. One got out of the car, rang the door bell, knocked on the door very loud and hard to see if anyone was here and when the door wasn't answered went down the drive-way to the back door to break in. We called the police and gave all the information.

 

Ladies PLEASE be very aware if your home alone with your children, I couldn't even begin to think what would have happened if I had opened the door or if someone wasn't here...PLEASE have your sitters or nanny's prepared for an attempted break-in. What would they do, where would they hide, put the kids, who would they call, etc.

 

THIS IS VERY REAL AND WE NEED TO BE PREPARED!!!

STRAY ANIMAL clarification

ANIMAL CONTROL has changed their field officer's schedule. Utilizing this  new schedule "should" make them more effective with the staffing they currently have (since staffing is currently frozen).

 

MOST IMPORTANT:

Anything that has to deal with wildlife call Animal Control 404-294-2996 (24 hrs/day). If you see an animal ie: raccoon, opossum whether it is in the home or out of the home, still call the same animal control # above,

DONOT 911.  If you are in danger and do not have this number handy, then of course utilize 911.

 

Animal Control, the police and the 911 center all follow their individual protocols and you will get a response.

Have a safe weekend and be careful if you have to drive somewhere.  It has been a fairly quiet week, but we had some entering autos around the mall area.  We do not have any leads on the recent burglary from last week.  It is a  tan Chevrolet Silverado with Florida tags(dark tinted windows).  There were two black male occupants inside the vehicle. 

 

Just a reminder…The Chief, several officer’s and I will be out at  Lake Lanier Islands next Saturday, February 20^th from 1100 to 1500.    We will be jumping in the lake in response to our Special Olympics fundraiser.  Hopefully the weather will be better than it is now!!!  We have done really well with raising money for this event!!  Please come out and join us…or you can just watch us freeze!!  Click on the link below to see how we did…

Burglary: From the DPD

We had a burglary on Vermack Road this morning (February 9).  Two black males were seen loading a flat screen T.V. into the back of a tan Chevrolet pickup truck with tinted windows.  The truck also had a Florida tag on it.  If you see a vehicle matching this description in your neighborhood, please notify us immediately.

The DPD on the Nandina intersection

Please use caution at the intersection of Nandina and Chamblee Dunwoody and remember to stop for the stop sign. We have had several runners and cyclists almost hit at this intersection in the recent past. We have stepped up enforcement efforts in this area and wrote 10 citations there on Sunday.

Update from the Dunwoody Police Department

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

 

I have been out of town for the past two weeks, so I will try to get you up to speed with what is going on around the city. 

 

I am excited to announce that we will be holding the first Citizen’s Police Academy tonight.  I received an excellent response from everyone, unfortunately I cannot have too many people in the class.  I will see how this first class goes, and then see if I can accept more people.  It becomes too hard to manage because of space, time and certain travels that we must do.  I have already contacted the individuals that will be in this class, if I did not call you, you are on the waiting list for the next class.  Dates are TBD!!

 

First, I want to tell you about a home invasion that occurred last night on Oxford Chase Way around 2245 hours.  I want to inform you that this was not random.  They were looking for someone in particular that did not live there anymore.  Detectives and our crime scene technician were called out to the scene to collect evidence.  The suspects were described as follows:  Two black males with thin builds.  One was approximately 6’01” and the other was approximately 6’02”.  One had a handgun and they were dressed all in black.  If you noticed these suspects or a vehicle that was out of place in that area, please let me know. 

 

Officers responded to a burglary yesterday at 2357 Dunwoody Crossing.  They were given a description of the suspect vehicle while they were responding.  Officers spotted the vehicle, made the traffic stop, and arrested both suspects.  Someone was home when these individuals kicked in the door.  Once inside, they saw the resident and fled the scene.  The suspects knocked first, but no one answered.  If someone is knocking on your door, let them know you are home.  You do not have to open the door!!  If they appear suspicious, call 911!  Good job to our officers for their attentiveness!

 

Last Friday we had a Strong Armed Robbery attempt at the Bank of America, 4545 Chamblee Dunwoody Road.  A black male approached a female from behind and tried to snatch an envelope out of her hand.  The attempt failed and the suspect ran off.  He was approximately 5’06-5’07” with a medium build.  He was wearing blue jeans, a black leather jacket, a brown skull cap and work boots.  He was last seen getting into a dark colored GMC Yukon.  If you are making a deposit, do not walk with the envelope out.  Conceal it the best you can.  Pay attention to your surroundings  and make sure no one is following you. 

 

The entering autos are continuing.  We have had several over the past couple weeks.  The locations are as follows:  (2) at 3300 Asbury Square, 350 Perimeter Center North, (3) at 4685 Chamblee Dunwoody Road(unlocked car), 1445 Mt. Vernon Road, North Shallowford Road, Pernoshal Court, Dunwoody Park and Pineridge Circle.  The majority of these entering autos were unlocked.  Lock your cars and take in your valuables.

Car break-ins - DUNWOODY RIDGE

From a neighboring community watch:

 

We are sorry to have to inform you that it appears that the "thugs" went through Dunwoody Ridge last night. The cars at 4517 (bldg 4) and 4479 (bldg 6) were both in their garages and were broken in to. It would appear that a bag of clothes was the incentive at 4517, but they went through her glove compartment and found her GPS. At 4479, we do not yet know what was taken. The owner at 4517 did not come home until after midnight, so the break-ins were sometime between then and 6:45 am when 4496 went out to her car to go to work. At 4496 (bldg 2), the car was parked on the street. They went through her car and took $20 that was in the console.The officer said that from the dew patterns on the other cars next to hers, it does not appear that they were disturbed. We were copied on a report from North Forest that the same thing happened at their property last Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. The City of Dunwoody Police were called and reports have been filed. Once again, they reiterate LEAVE NOTHING in your car, not even the re-usable grocery bags that are now becoming so popular!!! And make sure your car is LOCKED!!!

 

Update from the DPD

Ladies and Gentlemen,

                We still have reports of entering autos in the city.  They are as follows:  4600 Ashford Dunwoody Rd., 1161 Hammond Drive, 4560 Olde Perimeter Way, Huntington Hall Court, Village Mill Road and 235 Perimeter Ctr Pkwy.  These have occurred during the past week at all hours of the day.  The windows are smashed out, or there are pry marks under the door handle.  Laptops, GPS’s and IPODS are the usual items taken. 

 

We had an attempted burglary on Kingsglen Court on the 28^th around 2230 hours.  Two suspects opened an unlocked door to the residence and the home owner scared them away.  The first suspect was a B/M, 508-600, average build wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.  The second suspect was possibly a B/M, 506-508, average build wearing a black sweatshirt. 

 

Another burglary occurred between the 23^rd-29^th on Redcliff Court.  The front door window was smashed out.  Various items were taken.

 

If you see anything  suspicious, please call 911 immediately.

 

I received a lot of residence checks before and during the holidays.  We can post date these requests in the computer, so please send them early enough so they can be entered.  We received some when we were on vacation.  E-mail William.furman@dunwoodyga.gov or mike.carlson@dunwoodyga.gov and give the following:  Name, Address, Phone, Emergency Contact Phone, dates you will be gone, authorized people that can be at your house, cars at the house, lights on timers, alarm system and company  and any other pertinent information that you want us to know.

Quick Update (DPD)

Good Evening Everyone,

                The other day we had a 13 year old walking to his bus stop on Vermack Road near Vermack Ridge.  He noticed a small red vehicle drive by, turn around and stop.  The driver asked the juvenile if he was skipping school and/or if he needed a ride.  After refusing twice, the driver left the scene. 

 

The driver was described as a heavy set white male with short blonde hair.  He was approximately 16-18 years old with bad acne.  If you see anyone matching this description, please notify the Dunwoody Police. 

 

The detectives are looking into this isolated incident and do not know what the driver’s intent was. 

 

Please have a safe weekend and drive safe in this bad weather.  If you are leaving town for the holidays, please let us know so we can add you on our zone patrol list.

Update from the Dunwoody Police Department

Good Evening Everyone,

                I received a forwarded e-mail about some damage to property inside The Branches.  There have been some individual(s) damaging holiday decorations at several locations.  They are destroying lights, inflatable’s and several mailboxes throughout the neighborhood.  Please report this immediately if you are a victim.  There was a similar incident that occurred a couple weeks ago that was not far from the Branches.  A neighbor saw two individuals damaging some decorations.  The neighbor called the police and we were able to locate and identify them.  I am not sure if these are related since these incidents were not reported. 

 

We had numerous entering autos last week.  Entry was made by smashing out the back and side windows.  The locations were as follows:  E. Madison Drive, Adams Road, Cherring Drive, Old Village Lane, The Marriott(Peachtree Center Pkwy), The Dunwoody Nature Center and the Exxon station(Ashford Dunwoody/Perimeter Center East).  Please take all valuables out of your car and lock it!  These thefts were crimes of opportunity.  The suspect saw something he/she wanted and took it. 

 

Please keep an eye out for your neighbors!  If you see something suspicious, please call 911!

Hello everyone,

  I wanted to let you know of an incident that occurred yesterday morning. Four vehicles were broken into in the parking lot area of Dunwoody Baptist Church between 9:15 and 9:45am. The possible suspect was driving a dark colored, late model Toyota Camry with Florida tags. All of the victims had their purses, or wallets from their purses, stolen. All of the purses were visible in either the front seat or back seat of the victim’s cars.

  Please remember to take all of your valuables with you when you exit your car, or lock them in the trunk. Please do not leave valuables in the passenger area in view of passing people. Remember, don’t be an easy target.

Updates from the Dunwoody Police Department

Good Evening,
We had numerous car break-ins last night in the Dunwoody North and Kingsley area. I do not have a total amount, but one is too many. Our officers have been taking reports, and requesting our Crime Scene Technician when there is evidence to collect. There were some GPS’s taken and other miscellaneous items. The windows were broken out of most of them, and others had their doors unlocked. Please remove all items and lock your doors. Please call 911 if you see anything suspicious!!! Our night watch officers will be patrolling the area!
We had some reports in the area of the mall and Wal-Mart about windows being shot out with a BB gun. We caught the individual on Tuesday!
Car break-ins are still occurring in the mall area. We have stepped up patrol and are working with the mall security to catch this individual(s).
Last week an officer was responding to a burglary call at the Parkwood Village apartments. The suspect was spotted and arrested after a brief foot pursuit!

Perimeter Mall Strong Arm Theft (from DPD)

Hello everyone,

  We wanted to notify everyone of a strong arm theft that occurred on Monday night at Perimeter Mall. A customer had just purchased a laptop from the Apple store and was leaving the mall. An unidentified, young black male, approached the customer from behind and grabbed their arm, causing them to drop the laptop. A brief struggle ensued and the black male picked up the laptop and fled the scene on foot. Video surveillance showed that the suspect was possibly in the store at the same time as the customer and followed them outside. This occurred at approximately 8:30pm near Maggiano’s.

  We want to remind everyone to be diligent in their awareness. Suspects such as these target victims that they feel are not aware they are there. Remember to always make eye contact with those people around  you and look over your shoulder every once in awhile to check behind you. We are entering the holiday season and crimes such as this will increase. If you feel you are being followed, contact one of the security officers to escort you. As always, if you see a suspicious person or vehicle, don’t hesitate to call 911 and report it.

Update from the Dunwoody Police

Good Afternoon,

                I sent out an e-mail yesterday with a picture of a suspect.  He committed a Robbery at the Bank of America on Jett Ferry at noon.  Detectives are working on the case and I will update you if we have any leads.  Please pay attention to your surroundings when you are at the bank.  This man was very calm while committing this crime.  There was no way to tell if he was armed, nor did he state he had a gun.  Never confront these individuals if you know what’s going on.  Comply with their orders and just try to be a good witness(clothing description, voice, tattoos, vehicle description..etc..). 

 

We have had some concerns with Craigslist.  Please be aware of scams if you are selling and/or purchasing.  If you go to meet someone to finalize the deal, go with another person and meet in a public place. 

 

Car break-ins are continuing.  We have had several occur throughout Dunwoody with the same method of operation.  Windows were smashed out in the following areas:  Azalea Garden Drive, Perimeter Center West, Peeler Road and a car was stolen from Summerford Drive.  Laptops and GPS units were taken in each of those.  Continue the target hardening(hide or remove expensive items). 

 

We had a burglary occur on Charleston Place last week during the day.  The suspect(s) entered through an open window and took a T.V. and a computer.  Make sure all openings are locked and your alarms are set(if your house is equipped with one).

Incident: Bank Robbery Location: Bank of America, 2454 Jett Ferry Road Date: 111209

The Dunwoody Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred at the Bank of America located at 2454 Jett Ferry Road.

 

At approximately 1158 hours, a white male approached the counter and handed over a note demanding cash. The suspect was able to leave the bank with an undisclosed amount of currency. He was last seen running south through the parking lot.

 

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20’s to early 30’s. He was wearing a light blue Nike baseball hat, sunglasses and a green plaid shirt. He was also wearing light colored blue jeans or sweat pants.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

                I hope everyone had a nice weekend.  We have had some incidents going on around the city.  We are continuing to have car break-ins.  Last week, several cars were broken into on Chateau Drive and Rochelle Court.  The suspect was taking items from "unlocked" cars.  Please continue the "target hardening" that we are suggesting.  Take all valuables out of the cars and lock them!  We also had a witness who saw the suspect and did not call the police.  The only description is a man wearing a baseball cap and a jacket.

 

Morning watch responded to approximately 12 car break-ins on the 17^th.  They were occurring around the Kellogg Springs Drive area.  The suspect was caught and charged that same night!  Good Job Morning Watch!

 

If you saw the news last week, I was talking about some pick-pocketing that occurred over at the mall.  Please be sure to watch all valuables at all times.  These suspects were very good and were able to make some transactions using their credit cards.  They were targeting females that had purses hung on the backs of their chairs.  http://www.dunwoodyga.gov/Government/departments/Dunwoody-Police-Department/Police-Press-Releases.aspx

 

We had a burglary that occurred on Tyndall Court on the 16^th.  It occurred between the hours of 0815 and 1450.  The suspect made entry by prying open a side door.  Evidence was collected and submitted at the PD.  Please remember to record your serial numbers on all valuables.  I received several e-mails on this burglary over the weekend.  This was a "Burglary" not a "Robbery".   

 

Robbery- With intent to commit a theft, a person will take the property of another by use of force, by intimidation or sudden snatching. 

Burglary- A burglary is committed when one enters the dwelling of another with the intent to commit a felony or theft therein. 

 

Dekalb County had an Armed Robbery, (see definition above) at the Texaco on Ashford Dunwoody and Johnson Ferry Road.  The suspect came through our jurisdiction and was spotted by one of our daywatch officers.  The officer followed the suspect until back up and Dekalb County officers could arrive.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  Good Job Daywatch! 

 

I am currently in training for the next several weeks for our Records Management System.  Officer Furman and I started last week and will begin teaching the rest of the department.  We will be and have been busy!  Thanks to the neighborhood watch coordinators for giving us updates and suspect descriptions.  These are forwarded to detectives for follow up!  I hope everyone has a good week!

                Good morning and I hope everyone is having a good week.  If you have been watching the news, you see that we have been busy.  You all know that Halloween is this Saturday, so I have attached Officer Furman's October newsletter with some Halloween safety tips(you should already have received this).  Please have a safe and fun weekend. 

 

We had some incidents occur during this past week.  There was a burglary on Winters Chapel Road.  Entry was made around noon by prying open the front door.  Several items were taken from the residence.

 

Another Burglary occurred at Dunwoody Crossing.  He was caught by dayshift and was still in possession of the items taken.  An attentive neighbor called police when the incident was taking place.  They were able to possibly identify the suspect.  Once again, the police and community working together.  Excellent Job!

 

There were two entering autos at 400 Perimeter Center Place.  The windows were smashed out and the usual items were taken(GPS & an IPOD). 

 

Some of you may know that Chief Billy Grogan is the state director for the Special Olympics.  Several officers, including the Chief and I, will be participating in the Polar Plunge this February 20^th at the Lake Lanier Islands and Resorts.  This is in support of the Special Olympics in 2010.  If you are interested in participating or donating, I have attached a link for you to review.

All of  these occurred  on Tuesday Oct. 13^th

White male about 6'2 ,  medium to large build,  brown straight hair,   "creeping looking" guy per a young girl and some neighbors saw him in their carport as well

Some kids feel he lives in Dunwoody, as they have seen him around other places… who knows

He was also seen on Sat. walking a dog so he might have been casing the area.

The police are working with these folks.

 

 

CRIME ALERT

 

Dear Neighbors:

 

Last night we one or more perpetrators went through the neighborhood entering unlocked cars stealing valuables or money.  These are crimes of opportunity and are easy pickings for the criminals:

 

The following Chateau Woods residences are the ones that were hit:

 

1585 Chateau Drive – Stolen Halloween decorations (within the last several nights).

1744 Chateau Drive – Stolen golf clubs and sun glasses.

1559 Rochelle Court – Stolen bicycle and money.

1562 Rochelle Court – Stolen money.

 

Our neighbor saw a man wearing a baseball hat and jacket enter our carport and look through one of our vehicles at 12:45 am.  Even though the lights went on, the man acted very nonchalantly and did not seem rushed.  He rode away on our son's bicycle.  Because he acted coolly, our neighbors figured it was someone related to our family.

 

Fortunately, the items taken were of relatively little value.  But this is a reminder to us all that if you see something or someone that looks suspicious or out of place please call 911 first and let the Dunwoody Police Department check it out.  With a sluggish economy and the holidays coming up crime always seems to pick up.  Please be alert, keep your doors locked, and valuables out of sight.

Morning watch responded to approximately 12 car break-ins on the 17^th.  They were occurring around the Kellogg Springs Drive area.  The suspect was caught and charged that same night!  Good Job Morning Watch!

We had a burglary that occurred on Tyndall Court on the 16^th.  It occurred between the hours of 0815 and 1450.  The suspect made entry by prying open a side door.  Evidence was collected and submitted at the PD.  Please remember to record your serial numbers on all valuables.  I received several e-mails on this burglary over the weekend.  This was a “Burglary” not a “Robbery”.   

 

Robbery- With intent to commit a theft, a person will take the property of another by use of force, by intimidation or sudden snatching. 

Burglary- A burglary is committed when one enters the dwelling of another with the intent to commit a felony or theft therein. 

 

Dekalb County had an Armed Robbery, (see definition above) at the Texaco on Ashford Dunwoody and Johnson Ferry Road.  The suspect came through our jurisdiction and was spotted by one of our daywatch officers.  The officer followed the suspect until back up and Dekalb County officers could arrive.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  Good Job Daywatch! 

 

I am currently in training for the next several weeks for our Records Management System.  Officer Furman and I started last week and will begin teaching the rest of the department.  We will be and have been busy!  Thanks to the neighborhood watch coordinators for giving us updates and suspect descriptions.  These are forwarded to detectives for follow up!  I hope everyone has a good week!

Just wanted to alert everyone that our house was broken into Friday 10/16 sometime between 8:00 am and 2:45 pm.  We have been in touch with many of our cul-de-sac neighbors but just in case someone was walking or driving by and saw anything or anyone out of the norm by our house we would like to hear about it. 

 

This was certainly a wake up call for us to no longer be complacent about the alarm, computers in site by windows, keeping jewelry in a safe bolted to the wall or floor, and keeping a list of registration numbers for much of the items mentioned later.  These robbers were only interested in flat screen TVs not regular one.  Wiis, Nintendo DS, Wii Guitars and all the games, music and video CDs.  Easy cash to get from a Game Stop store.  Took a safe that was not bolted, laptops, cameras and video recorders.  Pretty much the usual stuff one would expect. 

 

As neighbors I would encourage everyone to be alert to suspicious activity.  If anyone knows emails for the neighbors in Vernon Springs you may wish to pass the word around.  I for one love nosey neighbors. :)

 

From a neighboring community Neighborhood Watch: Tree removal solicitors

IF you see anyone in Dunwoody asking for business  no matter WHO they are…tree men, roofers, siding, painters etc….   according to Sgt. Carlson , "they are soliciting for profit.  It's against our ordinance."  They must have the COD ID badge.   Remember girl scouts and boy scouts …that's the simple way to remember who is ok… 

 

PLEASE keep asking folks to call 911 and let me know when they do, so I can get it out to all of you. This morning a   coordinator sent this email to her folks and asked me to share it with all of you to do the same.

 

 The neighbor (now) knows to call 911 if this happens again.  If you have any ideas of how you are going to get this thru to your neighbors that might be "different" "creative"… let me know.  I have no more ideas up my sleeve. If they don't call they are just not helping to keep us safe.

 

 

Hi Neighbors,

 

I received some information from a concerned Cambridge resident regarding a company that has been coming door to door soliciting tree removal service.  Although this is not unusual, what was concerning is that after receiving a second opinion the resident learned that almost all of the information this company/the saleman shared was false.  Further, not only was it false but would have caused irreprable and significant damage to her property.  This particular resident was told that not only her trees along the creek would fall, but that her pines in the front had pine beetles and would fall.  They quoted ridiculously high prices with discounts if the work was done within the next 24 hours.  Even after the discount, the price was still very high.  The resident spoke with her licensed arborist and learned that there were no pine beetles and the trees were fine and would be ok for another couple of years.   

 

Some folks come around like ambulance chasers and they say all the right things and have you fearing that because of all of the rain the trees around your home are at risk of falling if the wind blows.  Please know that, and more importantly for those of you are backed up against the creek, the root system of your trees maybe holding your property together.  Although there may be a risk of the tree itself, you may not want to remove the stump.  Thereto, if large portions of the trees are dropped onto areas that are still water soaked it could cause portions of the property to collapse.  

 

If you suspect that the information you are being given is false, call the property county or city authorities to verify the information  Further, and according to Dunwoody PD, it is illegal to solicit for profit within the city limits.  They need to display an identification card that Dunwoody PD issues.  If they are soliciting and do not have an I.D. card displayed, please CALL 911***  NOT THE DUNWOODY POLICE* they will respond via the 911 operator*

 

If you do speak with someone and have concernes, please please please always get second and third opinions before removing any trees or installing retainer walls.  

 

Share this information with your neighbors.  Despite our best efforts, not everyone on Cambridge is part of the neighborhood watch.  Please keep an eye out for your neighbors, especially those who may easily fall prey to these solicitors.

I was at the Chinese restaurant dining w/ 2 other family members [ YSE on DV&nb sp;Parkway] last nite when we noticed 2 suspicious tall black males walk in around 7:30 PM & go to the managers office when she [the manager] was back in the kitchen.

We alerted the staff to the incident & surprised a robbery/theft in progress. The b/m's immediately ran out the door w/ unknown valuables & CC but we got a description of their vehicle & called 911 ASAP. They were driving a possibly stolen late model large SUV dark red w/ drive out dealer tags & saw them head west on Mt Vernon.

The Dunwoody police came w/ in 2-3 minutes & interviewed all of us. I do not know if these guys have been caught or not. Please do not publish my name but felt this was important for the neighbors to know. Heads up as we will not be safe until these creeps are out of our area & sitting in jail. Kudos to the DPB & their quick professional response!!

I would like to pass on some good news.

We have received a lot of inquiries about the rash of burglaries that have been occurring throughout the city. I have been disseminating information since they have started, and our department has worked tirelessly to solve them.

One of our residents with neighborhood watch gave us a partial license plate of a black sport utility vehicle that was seen in the area. We passed this information on to our surrounding agencies since they were having similar burglaries. The Dekalb County Police Department stopped this suspect vehicle last week and detained the driver and passenger. They immediately informed our detective division and the suspects were questioned.

As of today, these two have been linked to one of the burglaries in the Dunwoody North area. Our detectives are still investigating the multiple crimes to see if they are connected with the others. They are currently detained at the Dekalb County Jail. They are still possibly looking for a third suspect.

I would like to express the importance of Neighborhood Watch and the effectiveness it has shown. This is only one example of the police and citizens working together to make our city safer. I would like to thank all of the coordinators and block captains for donating their time and effort towards this goal. We will continue to share information with all of you and keep you updated on our progress.

Please remain attentive of your surroundings and community. Do not become complacent because these two were captured. I feel this is a huge success, but we still need to watch out for each other.

Most of you already heard about an individual that began fondling himself to one of our residents out jogging. If you see anyone matching the description below, please call 911 immediately.

The victim quoted this: At Tilly Mill a bright yellow car (sporty looking) with a white heavy set bald male driver let me cross even though he had a green light. I kept going on Womack and saw the car drive past me. When I approached the entrance to Dunwoody Elementary (the new school) I saw the car in the first driveway. I almost ran all the way across the intersection without stopping because I couldn't hear what he was saying because of my music, but he waved his GPS and I took off an earphone and he said "I can't figure this out" so I took a step towards the car and found him completely exposed and playing with himself.

There was possibly a Florida tag on that suspect's yellow car.

We also had another female that was possibly followed. An old, white, full sized van with pin stripes began following a female in the Meadowcreek Drive area. The van was occupied with two males. There was no contact made, but she explained that the van was acting suspicious by following her down several streets.

Officer Furman included “jogger tips” in his last newsletter. We suggest that you carry a cell phone so you can call 911 immediately in case of circumstances like these.

Today’s Burglaries:
Both occurred around 1130

1st- N. Peachtree Rd: had an alarm, we responded within 5 minutes of dispatch receiving the alarm. The perpetrators only had time to get a flat screen TV.

2nd- Riverglenn Dr: no alarm, 3 old laptops, a small flat screen TV and a directTV receiver were taken.
Both had a door kicked in.

A black GMC SUV with partial tag 518 driven by a black male was seen in the area by another resident and is probably the perpetrator from these burglaries.

When I have further information, I will pass it on!! If you see this SUV, call 911, not your NW coordinator or me!! We need to catch this individual(s).

We had two entering autos at the 4745 Ashford Dunwoody Road last night between 6&7 (briefcase and gameboy). We also had an entering auto at 4355 Ashford Dunwoody Road (GPS).

In reference to the burglaries: I spoke with Sandy Springs PD yesterday. They had approximately 10 burglaries the other day, possibly same crew. I have received several e-mails recently about suspicious autos and people. Please understand that I appreciate the information, but you need to call 911 as it is happening. Officer Furman and I have sent out numerous e-mails about what to do when you see a suspicious person or automobile. I will pass on this information, but these people need to be identified immediately! Once again, thanks for all you are doing. The information is extremely helpful and has been passed on to our detectives and patrol divisions. I will keep you informed if we have anymore updates!

Just a follow up on yesterdays burglaries. They occurred between 7AM to 2PM. The suspect(s) initially knocked on a residents door and asked if they could landscape her yard. She became suspicious when they did not have any landscape equipment. They were obviously casing the house. All of them had pry marks on the back doors, and once again, flat screen T.V’s were the item of choice. Please keep a look out for the vehicle description I gave out yesterday. Call 911 if you see it riding around your neighborhood.

NW Coordinators- All of you are doing a fantastic job with disseminating information to your communities. On a side note, I am receiving a ton of e-mails from individuals inside your communities. Please express the importance of going through the coordinators so I can get timely information back to you. I will keep you informed if we locate anything!!

Just look for a red VW with license tag ending in TD please and call 911*

This morning at 10:15am a red VW Jetta (late 90's model) was parked in front of a home in the 2500 block of Fontainebleau Dr, the occupant was a black male, slender face, wearing a Jamaican knit cap, appx 33-38 years old. As I pulled up to inquire if he needed assistance he took off, I was able to report his Tag # to the 911 operator as I followed him up Happy Hollow to Peeler, (4 numbers and it ended in TD......ok, I didn't write it down but the police have it, a valuable lesson for me......lol....!!!) I met the Dunwoody Police Dept at the home of where he had been in front of concerned that someone had been dropped off to go inside, also this particular home has been burglarized recently.

If you see this vehicle and person of interest please call the Dunwoody Police Dept @ 911.

Also, I have confirmed with the homeowner that nobody should have been there.

I have had several Officers ask me to send this email out. Citizens are telling Officers of stories about them approaching suspicious vehicles in their neighborhoods. PLEASE inform all of your residents to NEVER approach a suspicious vehicle and try to make contact with the occupants. This is a VERY DANGEROUS situation. If a suspect does not want to be caught or identified, then they are usually willing to take drastic steps to escape, including hurting anyone they have to. Our best scenario is for a citizen to spot a suspicious vehicle, contact 911, and stay on the line so they can provide continuous updates to the responding Officers. This keeps the citizen out of harms way and allows us the element of surprise while approaching them. If a citizen waits until a vehicle is gone to call 911 then the chances of finding that vehicle later are almost 0.

So please remember:
#1. NEVER approach a suspicious auto
#2. Always call 911 immediately
#3. Try to stay online with 911 to provide updates
#4. Give a good description of the vehicle: make, model, color, description of occupants, tag number, any identifying marks or damage, etc (the more detail the better)

We just had an attempted burglary today at the 4800 block of Ashford Club Drive. The lookout is as follows: Two black males- We only have a description of one. He is in his early 20’s, approximately 6’00”, medium build, and medium complexion. He was wearing a white t-shirt and khaki pants. There was a tattoo of a name on the right side of his neck. They were last seen driving a late 90’s champagne minivan. The male attempted to kick in the back door, but the resident was home and the alarm sounded. They fled the area. If you see anyone matching this description, call 911 immediately.

Also, our detectives just caught the individual conducting the Comcast scams. You can cancel the lookout for the burgundy Camry. Thanks!!

There was another burglary today with the same “method of operation”. There are pry marks on the back doors of both victims. This burglary occurred on Forest Springs Court off Mt. Vernon. It occurred between the hours of 0830 and 1300.

We had another burglary reported, possibly same individuals. This burglary occurred on Sirron Court off of Chamblee Dunwoody Road. I had a resident call in possibly seeing the van entering the area of Ashford Club Drive with the burglary I reported earlier. Of course, these incidents are in the same vicinity. A flat screen T.V. was taken from this res idence. Please call in if you see anything suspicious, especially this van driving around your neighborhood that is occupied with multiple black males.

Last night, one of our officers arrested an individual breaking into cars at one of our apartment complexes. These individuals were professionals with the equipment they were in possession with. Anyway, it was a good bust for our night shift officers! This is still under investigation, so I am releasing limited information.

The American flag and flag holder at the Redfield subdivision has been stolen several times. A ladder is needed to take this flag…If you have any information about this theft, please notify the Dunwoody Police.

An entering auto was reported in the parking deck behind Taco Mac. Another laptop was taken along with misc. items.

We have received an overwhelming response for zone patrols while residents are on vacation. Please understand that our call volume is extremely high, and the shift officers will check them as time allows. Please understand that our officers will do their best to zone patrol!!

Detectives are working a theft of service involving COMCAST cable. The perpetrator is identified as a b/m, age late 20-early 30, 506, 170 lbs., driving a 2000-2005 maroon/red Toyota Camry. He has been distributing flyers advertising cable service. He has customers cancel their present account (usually Comcast) and sells them ‘his’ service. All he does is go to the utility box and tap into someone else’s cable. He has sold service to residents at Broadstone apartments.

We had a burglary on Valley View Drive earlier this week. Two plasma televisions were taken along with some jewelry. Forced entry was made on a front window using a pry bar.

We had a purse taken from an unlocked car at Brook Run. Due to recent entering autos, please leave all valuables at your house or keep them on you.

We have had some recent “scamming” issues throughout the city. Notify us if you do not feel it is a legitimate charity, or if they are in violation of our solicitor ordinance. Remember, solicitors must have a COD identification card. This excludes solicitation for charitable, political, or other nonprofit purposes provided that all sales proceeds are the property of and used by the nonprofit organization.

Please just keep your eyes open for ANYONE trying to sell you on cleaning gutters (since that seems to be the most prevalent) who does not have sufficient business info for you before you hire them ... He goes for older folks usually and convinces them they need something done... the vulnerable is who he looks for. Very nice too, by the way; the convincing sort...

My parents were the victims of of a probable fraud. Two men and a younger boy all of whom appeared to be Hispanic talks my father into cleaning the gutters, which I cleaned not long ago after all the pollen, and applying some "sealant" of questionable origin. I suspect water. Fortunately some family members arrived and still they got 100$ after requesting $1400 and being rebuffed by my mother, they asked what the job was worth and took the 100$ left quickly, covering the license plate with something. They were in a 3-4 year old white Dodge Dakota. Dunwoody Police have been called but unfortunately this occurred about 2pm and I just got them to call. Be aware.....
