The Dunwoody Police Department continuously seeks opportunities to use technology to facilitate and enhance the relationship we have with our community. Since beginning operations on April 1, 2009, the Dunwoody Police Department has been on the cutting edge of using social media to inform, educate and connect with our residents. The department currently has over 1,000 likes on Facebook, over 2,200 followers on Twitter and we use YouTube to post videos of interest to our community. In addition, the department uses Interactive Defense as a tool to connect with our Neighborhood Watch groups and have over 1,400 users. The department also has a robust website with many active visitors each day.
 
Although we are able to interact with many members of our community, we know there are others we have yet to reach. To that end, the Dunwoody Police Department is pleased to announce our new service with Wired Blue, LLC. Wired Blue, LLC has developed a police app for the iPhone and Android titled "MYPD" or "My Police Department". This app is currently available online as a free download. Community members can now download the app, click on the Dunwoody Police Department and use it to ask questions, submit tips, view our website, see current news, access our social media sites and access many other features all in one convenient location. This app leverages the popularity of smart phones in use today. "Many people in our community use smart phones. This app gives them an easy way to communicate with the Dunwoody Police Department, no matter where they are, and stay informed about our activity and keep track of items of interest", says Chief Billy Grogan. The "My Police Department" app is a great addition to the Dunwoody Police Department's arsenal of social media communication tools available to our community. We hope that future updates to the app will give our community even more access to other features like Chief Grogan's Blog and Twitter feed.

Dunwoody Police - National Night Out, August 2, 2011

The Dunwoody Police Department is partnering with Target for the 28th Annual National Night Out event on August 2nd, 2011. "National Night Out is a unique crime and drug prevention program that is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch". This will be the 3rd year that the Dunwoody Police have participated in this program. Last year over 15,000 communities and 37 million people nationwide participated in National Night Out. This year, Target will be raffling off two kids bicycles, and approximately $200 in gift cards. There will be food and dessert served outside in the parking lot between 6PM-8PM. The Dunwoody Police will also have special equipment on display. This would be a great opportunity for the citizens to interact with members of the department and also have their photograph or children's photograph taken with a Dunwoody Police Officer. The Dunwoody Police will soon be participating with SMART 911 as we convert over to the ChattComm 911 center in October.

Burglary Arrests: Dunwoody Police Update

Incident: Burglary Arrests

Location: Dunwoody, GA.
 
The Dunwoody Police Department has arrested 30 year old Timothy Woznick, and 27 year old Michele Honaker for three separate Burglaries that occurred inside the city since July 11th. Officers were dispatched to Hallford Drive in reference to a residential burglary on July 25th. One of the officers spotted Woznick's vehicle, a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser, parked in the area. This vehicle was seen earlier in the week at another incident location. Woznick was interviewed and charged with 3 counts of Burglary(F). Honaker was charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property(F). We are currently working with other jurisdictions to determine if they committed any other burglaries outside the City of Dunwoody. They were both transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

Bank Robbery Arrest: Dunwoody Police Update

Incident: Bank Robbery Arrest

Location: Perimeter Center West @ Ashford Dunwoody Rd
 
The Dunwoody Police Department arrested 45 year old Gregory Leitschuh, for the Robbery of the Fidelity Bank that occurred on June 29th 2011. Around 1040 hours, Leitschuh walked into the bank located at 135 Perimeter Center West and demanded cash. He was able to leave with an undisclosed amount of money. At approximately 0923 hours on July 28th, Officer Jason Lewis conducted a traffic stop on Leitschuh's vehicle at the intersection of Perimeter Center West and Ashford Dunwoody Road for an expired tag. Officer Lewis recognized the driver as matching the description of the Fidelity Bank robbery suspect. Through further investigation, the driver admitted to committing the Robbery last month. A weapon, an exploded dye pack, and some money were located inside the vehicle. Leitschuh was placed under arrest and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

Recent Burglaries in Dunwoody / Suspect BOLO's

The Dunwoody Police Department is currently investigating two separate burglaries that are occurring by two different individuals.  I want to pass along the suspect's information in an attempt to keep a watchful eye out to preserve our community and apprehend these subjects.

The first BOLO is for a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser occupied by a white male with a blond beard.  This suspect is described as looking like a "blond version of Zac Brown".  When he arrives at a residence he rings the doorbell multiple times and then retreats to the back yard to check for entry points into the residence.  This subject has hit in the Hallford area, with entrances off Mount Vernon and Dunwoody Club Dr.

 

The second BOLO is for a black Toyota Corolla with two black male occupants.  The passenger of the vehicle is described as being heavy set black male and having unmanaged long hair.  He was seen knocking on several residents doors, before kicking in a door to make entry into the residence.  He has been seen in the Winters Chapel area. 

 

I apologize for the vague descriptions; however, this is what we are currently working with.  Please keep a vigilant watch for any suspicious persons or activity in your area and remember to call 911 to report this type of activity.  Do not limit your suspicions to the above descriptions.  If you have any information regarding these two subjects please let me know so that I can forward it to Investigations.

 

I wanted to also take a minute to thank those of you who have reported a white male who is soliciting children's books within the City.  This subject is driving a silver Pontiac with Montana tags.  This subject has obtained a permit to solicit through the City of Dunwoody.  I appreciate those of you who have alerted us to his activity and I wanted to make sure you all are aware that we are familiar with him.  Thank you.  Have a great weekend.

Wanted by Dunwoody Police - Jeffrey T Crowe

The Dunwoody Police Department is seeking Jeffrey T. Crowe -- a White male, 5'2", 200 pounds, brown hair, blue eyes, age 44. He is known to frequent Cafe Intermezzo, especially on Wednesdays between 9:30am and 1:00pm, and the surrounding shopping area at 4505 Ashford Dunwoody Road (where Alon's also is). He is known for his hunched over physique. He is wanted for credit card theft/fraud.
