MedReturn Press Release

In order to assist the public with the disposal of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications, the Dunwoody Police Department has acquired a drug collection unit called "MedReturn".


Beginning immediately, we invite Dunwoody resident's to bring their unwanted medication to the front lobby of our police department on Tuesdays or Thursdays between the hours of 9AM-11AM, or 1PM-3PM, at 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 100. We cannot accept needles/sharps, syringes with needles, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, empty containers, inhalers, medical equipment and hydrogen peroxide.


Unintentional poisoning from prescription medications is on the rise. Every year, over 2 million poison exposures are reported in the United States. In 2009, over 51% of reported poisonings in Georgia involved children ages 5 and under.
"Unfortunately, there are many unused dangerous prescription drugs in homes throughout our community. Citizens now have a safe alternative to dispose of them which will protect their children and remove the potential for abuse from others," said Chief Billy Grogan. The Dunwoody Police Department is pleased to offer this service.


The Dunwoody Police also participated in "Operation Pill Drop" this past weekend. There were over 200 pounds of unused medications collected on Saturday. We would like to continue assisting the residents throughout the year with MedReturn.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is domestic violence awareness month. The Dunwoody Police Department has created many steps to assist victims of domestic violence, and we want to make sure they know what services are available to them.


Earlier this year, the Dunwoody Police Department initiated the Domestic Assault Response Team. This team is comprised of 7 officers and 1 supervisor. These sworn personnel have received 40 hours of training through the Peace Officer's Standards and Training for "Response to Domestic Violence". Their responsibility is to follow up with all victims of domestic violence, and to ensure they have been notified of the available resources afforded to them. This team has conducted numerous follow-ups within the city, and they received favorable responses from the victims.


In collaboration with several DeKalb County resources, the Domestic Assault Response Team will provide these necessary contacts to all victims of domestic violence. Some of these contacts are, but not limited to: Victim Information and Notification Everyday (V.I.N.E.), the Ahimsa House, the Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence and several others.
